Marcelino Santamaria
Vineyard Supervisor“As I child, I helped my father grow corn and sesame seed in Michoacan, Mexico,” says Marcelino Santamaria. “He told me to work hard if I wanted something, and, at age 14, I began to dream of coming to the United States.” In 1985 Marcelino crossed the border to California to work in the San Joaquin Valley. He married at the age of 19 and began a family. “In 1998, my best friend, Ulises Valdez (also from Michoacan) invited me to come to Sonoma County. Life changed for me and my family dramatically when I began working in the vineyard industry.” Marcelino worked with Valdez Vineyard Management and Wattle Creek Vineyards for 15 years before joining Bevill Vineyard Management as a vineyard supervisor. He is in charge of Bevill client properties in the Alexander Valley. “This work has become one of my passions. I really enjoy every step, each season. BVM is well organized. Duff trusts us and there is good communication.” Cloverdale is home for Marcelino, his wife and five daughters. When not working for BVM, Marcelino enjoys running and taking classes to improve his command of English.
